Sunday in Springfield

On Sunday, we took a little day-trip with my in-laws who are visiting from AZ. We went to see the Abraham Lincoln Home, the Train Depot and Lincoln's Tomb. It was interesting, but hard to entertain little ones who don't know/care who Abraham Lincoln was.Here's the Lincoln home. One of Lincoln's sons (?) sold it to the Government for $1, with the condition that they could never charge an admission & it should be staged as if it was the year that Lincoln left Springfield to campaign for the presidency.Here's a pic of Bry's mom. The railing on the stairs was apparently "original". Ooooo...I touched the same rail as Abe Lincoln. Cool. We went by the Presidential Library, but decided that there really wasn't anything for kids & we didn't have anything in mind to research.

I thought this was the funniest sign. I know the context is railroad cars, but I still thought it was funny.We also went to Lincoln's Tomb, but I didn't get any pics. Bry forgot to take the camera with him while I stayed in the car with 3 sleeping beauties. I think they all had a pretty good time.

That is so cool!!! When we come to visit, whenever that is, you had better take us to good ole Abe's house too. I would love to see that!!

The presidential museum is actually pretty cool. Older kids can handle the exhibits quite well. For little ones, there is a little room called "Mrs. Lincoln's Attic". It's full of dress up, a doll house, a play frontier kitchen, and frontier games. That's where my girls like to go.
Lincoln's eyes movie is cool, but Alanah freaked the first time we saw it. Now she loves it. The Ghosts in the Library movie is much more tame and very cool multimedia experience. We've taken the girls twice and they've had a great time. We haven't tried Lincoln's home yet, but I also enjoyed the tomb much more than I thought I would.

Chuck E. Cheese...Yay!??!

I decided to suck-it-up and take the family to Chuck E. Cheese for Allison's birthday. In AZ, the kids really liked going to Peter Piper Pizza for pizza & games. We've been here 2 years, and I've managed NOT to make it into Chuck E. Cheese. The kids have asked many times, but it just hasn't happened. So, I thought it would be a treat for them. A friend of mine gave me some coupons & I printed some off the Internet too. We got tons of tokens, pizza & soda for everyone. We had a pretty good time, except for 3 emotional meltdowns - ALL thanks to Mia. One meltdown because she wanted to play a specific game, another when we were down to our last 2 tokens (one for Adelaide & one for Mia). Her final tantrum was on the way out when she changed her mind at the last minute about which prize she wanted (after our turn was over). We'll have to think seriously about another birthday @ Chuck E. Cheese. - Mia says she wants to have her birthday there next month. W...

SEW Happy...Some of My "Projects"

It's October, and I DO like Halloween. I think it's fun to dress up & pretend. Sometimes it's a little grotesque & scary or pretty or even silly. This year, I felt like I should embrace my "roundness". I kept thinking of ways I could emphasize my prego belly, and this is what I came up with (for about$7 too). I bought a black T-shirt (used a coupon) at Michaels. I got 1/2 yd of orange fabric for my pumpkin (which could have made 2), then 1/4yd of black, green & orange w/ polka-dots. I knew I already had some Under Wonder (Heat & Bond) stuff at home that I could use. I had an idea of how I wanted it to look, so I actually put the T-shirt on wrong-side-out & marked where I wanted the pumpkin, so I could decide how big to make it. I sewed with black thread to make lines on the pumpkin, just to embellish it a little more. I cut eyes, nose & mouth out of black & ironed it on with under wonder. OK, today is video Friday. I was looking through some video clips with the kids this morning & decided to share a couple of cute ones. This is one of my faves. - This is just typical for Adam when Amelia was born. He loved his little sis SO much. What happened? It's just funny to hear Amelia "whine" as her brother loves on her.
